Alex C. Visci

October 29, 1910 — February 23, 2010

Alex C. "Erbs" Visci, 99 of Avon Lake, died Tuesday, February 23, 2010 in St. John West Shore Hospital. He was born October 29, 1910 in Lorain and has lived in the Lorain area most of his life. As a young teenager, Alex left home to follow his passion as a trumpet player, traveling throughout the United States to play with many Big Bands. He was especially proud of his time with the Harry James Band, the Mickey Katz Band and appearance on the Billy Rose Aquacade Show. Following his return home and at the start of WWII, he was a staff musician at WHK Radio in Cleveland. In Lorain he was an instructor of music and trumpet to countless students, as well as repaired instruments from his Visci Music Studio on Broadway Avenue. For over 40 years, he was the band leader and trumpeter of the Alex Visci Quartet. Alex and his late wife Katherine "Kitty" were world travelers, visiting countries and exploring cultures in every part of the world. He is survived by numerous nieces, nephew and great-nieces and great-nephews. Preceding him in death were his wife, Katherine Visci, parents, Antonio and Elvira (nee Romito) Visci, sister, Mary Mazzone and brothers, Victor, Ferdinand and Pasquale Visci. Friends may call on Friday, February 26, 2010 from 4-8 pm at the Dombrowski-Humphrey-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain. Graveside services will be held on Saturday, February 27, 2010 at 11:00 am at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst.
