Anna "Liz" Kerns (nee Byerley), 87, of Vermilion, died Thursday, March 4, 2021 at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a sudden illness. She was born June 3, 1933 in Dayton, TN and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 60 years moving from Michigan. Liz was a member of First Baptist Church, Vermilion where served on the Baptism Committee and was active as a greeter and helped in the office, and kitchen. She had also volunteered at Lorain Community Hospital and New Life Hospice. She enjoyed yard work, bowling, walking, traveling, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren. Liz is survived by her daughters, Dolores "Dee" Jones-Velez of Vermilion and Cathy (Michael) Czarney of Vermilion; son, Dean Kerns of Vermilion; grandchildren, Stacy Beckford, Justin Kerns, C.J. Kerns, Brandon Kerns, Stefanie Herchler, Mike Jones, and Kevin Jones; 10 great grandchildren; and her sister, Linda Byerley of Dayton,TN. She was preceded in death by her husband, Curtis in 1994; parents, Walter and Garvie (nee Snyder) Byerley; sisters, Mary Ellen Gibson, Martha Noblin, and Thelma Lou Byerley; and her brothers, Allen Ray, Henry, and James Byerley. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, March 9, 2021 from 4:00 -7:00 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 10, 2021 at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home. Pastor Mark Jones will officiate. Friends and family who want to come are welcome to attend, but due to Covid-19, we are asking that people be careful to maintain social distancing, wear masks, and refrain from embracing. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion. The family suggests memorial contributions to First Baptist Church, 6716 West River Rd., Vermilion, OH 44089 .
