Betty Kudela (nee Herrick), 84, of Vermilion, died Wednesday, July 27, 2016 at her home after a lengthy illness. She was born October 9, 1931 in Lorain and had been a life long Vermilion resident. Betty graduated from Birmingham High School. She worked at McGarvey's Restaurant for 15 years and also worked several years in the kitchen at Lorain Community Hospital. She also owned K's Diner in the late 60's and early 70's. She attended the Chapel in Sandusky and enjoyed reading, gardening, liquid embroidery, and spending time with her family, especially her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 65 years, Thomas Kudela of Vermilion; sons, Thomas (Diane) Kudela and Kenneth (Tina) Kudela both of Vermilion; daughters, Rebecca (Terry) Bruce of Vermilion, Diane (Clarence) Ready of Elyria, Charl Gabel of Florence Twp, Elizabeth Sharkey of FL, and Dee (Leon) Krupp of Vermilion; 22 grandchildren, 44 great grandchildren; 2 great great grandchildren; and sister, Ruth Ann Morgan of Sterrett, AL. She was preceded in death by her parents, Kenneth and Alta (nee Hayes) Herrick; daughter, Joann Richardson; granddaughter, Georgenia Marrero; and sister, Jean Dixon. The family will receive friends on Sunday, July 31, 2016 from 2:00 pm until 5:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. The family will also receive friends on Monday, Aug. 1, 2016 from 10:00 am until the time of the funeral service at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Chaplain Mel Sayler will officiate.
