David M Parker, Jr., 72, of Vermilion, passed away Friday, February 9, 2018 at Specialty Hospitals of Lorain in Amherst following a brief illness. David was born September 18, 1945 in Arkansas and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 41 years moving from Berlin Heights. David was a deputy sheriff for Erie County for 27 years before retiring in 2003. He was a member of Zion Lutheran Church in Lorain and FOP # 17, Sandusky. He coached baseball for 20+ years and umpired many baseball and softball games, including Hot Stove, Vermilion and Huron Recreation leagues. He enjoyed going to Lake Erie Crusher games, Cleveland Monsters Hockey games, casino bus trips, and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife, Karen Parker (nee Schroeder) of Vermilion; son Michael (Tonja) Parker; granddaughters, Erin (Marcus) Frank and Lauren (Cole) Johnston; great grandsons, Walter and Owen Frank; sisters in law, Mary Lou Fritz, Linda Martz, and Nancy (Jeff) Kerchmar; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, David M. and Evelyn Parker, mother in law, Alyce Schroeder; and brother in law, Gerald Schroeder. The family will receive friends on Monday, February 12, 2018 from 3:00 pm to 7:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral services will be Tuesday, February 13, 2018 at 10:00 am at the funeral home. Pastor Bill Mugnolo will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
