Delores Jewell Campbell (nee Dalton), 85, of Vermilion, died Wednesday, December 14, 2022, at her daughter's home after a brief illness.
She was born May 6, 1937, in Chicago, IL, and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 45 years after moving from South Bend, IN.
Delores worked as a pediatric nurse practitioner for the Elyria City Health Department, St. Joseph Hospital in the newborn nursery, and for Home Instead as a companion. She retired in 2019 after 61 years of dedicated service to others.
She was a member of St. Peter's United Church of Christ, Amherst, and was an avid reader. She enjoyed watching HGTV, going to flea markets, and antiquing - once owning an antique store in Birmingham with her husband, Gene. She loved traveling, good meals with great friends, and volunteering to help those in need. Dee made anyone who came into her orbit feel appreciated and valued and had a strong bond with many lifelong friends. But most of all, she adored her family, nurturing and caring for each one of them as their beloved matriarch.
She is survived by her daughter, Caroline Cooksey of Amherst; sons, Matthew (Karen) Edwards of Tyler, TX, John Edwards of Vermilion, and Eugene (Shannon) Edwards of Amherst; step-daughter, Colleen Campbell of Vermilion; grandchildren, Kristen (Bryan) Hutson, Benjamin Cooksey, Elizabeth (Jordan) Newman, Samantha Edwards, Leah Edwards, Kortney (Corey) Graziano, Dalton Edwards, and Madison James; and her great-grandchildren, C.J., Jackson, Lucas, Broadie, and one great granddaughter on the way.
She was preceded in death by her mother, Ann Farnsley; father, Lester Dalton; first husband, Eugene Edwards; second husband, Borgia W. Campbell; son, Mark Edwards; grandson, Matthew Edwards; and son-in-law, Steve Cooksey.
The family will receive friends on Monday, December 19, 2022, from 4:00pm - 7:00pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral services will be Tuesday, December 20, 2022, at 1:00pm at the funeral home. Matthew Edwards, Delores's son, will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Second Harvest Food Bank of North Central Ohio, 5510 Baumhart Road, Lorain, OH 44053.
