Doris Jean Cantrell, 71, of Vermilion, died Saturday, May 8, 2010 at Community Health Partners, Lorain after a short illness. She was born December 15, 1938 in Tupelo, Mississippi. Doris had lived in Vermilion for 36 years moving from Lorain. Mrs. Cantrell had been a City Councilwoman for the City of Vermilion. She was the co-chairman of UAW #425 Women's Committee and had a real estate license. She loved to travel and advanced from a traveler to a tour guide for Mary Kobasher Tours of Lorain. She had recently visited Ireland, Panama and Alaska. She loved visiting with friends and relatives. Survivors include her sons, Charles W. Cantrell III and Robert Cantrell, both of Vermilion; grandsons, Owen Charles Cantrell of Atlanta and Nathan Charles Cantrell of Avon Lake; a sister, Ina Ballard of Mason Tennessee and a brother, Larry Joseph Rodgers of Holly Grove, Arkansas. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles, 2005 ; a sister, Eve Lanette Rodgers; and her parents, Robert and Gladys (nee Philpot) Rodgers. Friends may call Wednesday, May 12, 2010 from 7-9 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. Funeral services will be Thursday, May 13, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the funeral home.
