Douglas M. Johnson

Douglas M. Johnson, aged 82, passed away on Tuesday, February 20, 2024, at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a prolonged illness.

He was born on February 1, 1942, in Jackhorn, KY, and for the last 56 years, he resided in Vermilion, having relocated from Lorain.

Douglas dedicated 31 years of his life to Ford Motor Co., Lorain, where he served as a Door Fitter until his retirement in 1994. He was an active member of UAW #425 and formerly belonged to Vermilion Fish and Game. In his youth, Douglas excelled in football at Fleming-Neon High School. Additionally, he spent 11 years coaching summer baseball, and his passions included fishing, hunting, and spending time with his family.

Left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of 62 years, Sylvia (nee Halcomb) Johnson; his sons, Doug (Kathy) Johnson, Tim (Kim) Johnson, and Gary (Leslie) Johnson; grandchildren, Timothy (Julia), Tadd (Elizabeth), Kyle, Cody (Katherine Burlovich), Haylie, Morgan, and Eliza; great-grandchildren, Colt, Case, Kobe, Braylon, Anden, Kaynen, Weston, Wyatt, Genevieve, Ryleigh, Emery, and Grace; bonus grandchildren, Tyler, Ashley, and Ben; sister, Irene Reckart; brother in law, Edward Holcomb;  as well as numerous nieces and nephews.

Preceding him in death are his parents, Morgan and Baby (nee Houston) Johnson; his grandson, Neal Clayton Johnson; brothers, Henry, Charles, Buryl, Ernest, and Connie Johnson; sisters, LaRuth, Arbutus, and Sarah; as well as two infant brothers.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Thursday, February 22, 2024, from 2:00 pm to 4:00 pm and 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Funeral services will take place on Friday, February 23, 2024, at 11:00 AM at Riddle Funeral Home, officiated by The Reverend David Johnson. Following the service, interment will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery.
