Edward R. Horner, Sr. 93, of Amherst, died Wednesday, May 6, 2015 at Firelands Regional Medical Center, Sandusky after a lengthy illness. He was born July 27, 1921 in Harrison, KY and had been an Amherst resident for the past 20 years moving from Vermilion. Edward worked for US Steel Co., Lorain as a open hearth operator for 41 years retiring in 1983. He was a member of Harbourtown Community Church, Vermilion and had attended Firelands Baptist Church, Berlin Hts. He was also a member of Ely Masonic Lodge #424. Edward enjoyed bowling, horseshoes, boating, fishing, and was a pitcher on the US Steel and Harbourtown Community Church softball leagues. He is survived by his daughters, Linda McMillan of Amherst, Kathy (Bob) Schoening of Dubois, PA, Shirley Sue (Jim) Poprock of Lorain, Birtha Mae (Jerry Salyers) Manley of Sandusky, and Brenda Kay (Roy) Boyd of Vermilion; son, Edward R. (Judy) Horner, Jr. of Vermilion; 13 grandchildren; and 18 great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Martha E. (nee Green) Horner in 2008; parents, John and Cora Mae (nee Henderson) Horner; 2 granddaughters, Belinda Boyd and Marsha Schoening; sisters, Mary Stevens, Ollie Prater, Hazel Parker, Nora Justice, Betsy Dean, and Florence Lewis; and brothers, Charlie, Floyd, and Harlen Horner. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, May 12, 2015 from 2-4 pm and 7-9 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion OH where Ely Lodge #424 will conduct Masonic Services at 7pm. Funeral services will be Wednesday, May 13, 2015 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. Reverend Jim Cooper will officiate. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
