Floyd Y. Miller, 92, of Vermilion, died Friday, July 30, 2010 at Amherst Specialty Hospital after a short illness. Born May 18, 1918 in Rochester, Ohio, he had been a Vermilion resident for the past 26 years moving from Elyria. Floyd was a graduate of Case Western Reserve College. In 1982 he retired from his position as a design engineer and consultant for Ridge Tool, Elyria, where he held patents on several designs and engineering products. He had also worked at Thew Shovel, Lorain, Romec Pump, Elyria and Willow Hardware, Lorain. A faithful member, usher, and trustee of the United Church of Christ, Vermilion, he was a former member of the First Congregational United Church of Christ, Elyria, where he was the head of the building committee. He was a 65 year member of the Wellington Masonic Lodge #127 and a life member of the Elyria Elks Club. He served as past president of the Elyria Gyro Club, a member of the International Gyro Club, Vermilion Boat Club, and the Vermilion Power Boats. Floyd was a life member of the National Rifle Association and the Society of Automotive Engineers. He had been past president of the Elyria Kiwanis and a member of the Vermilion Kiwanis and enjoyed his memberships in Elyria Jaycees and the National Watch and Clock Association. He repaired and collected various clocks and watches, his specialty being 8 day antique clocks. He enjoyed photography and especially loved his time in Longboat Key, FL. He was a loving husband, father and grandfather and great grandfather. His sense of humor and smile were contagious. He loved life, his computer and his boat for as long as he owned it. Survivors include his wife of 26 years, Joan (nee Maslanka); daughters, Karen (Philip) Schultz, Vermilion, Lynnette (Robert) Paton, Birmingham; sons Reverend Nathan (Eileen) Miller, San Jose, CA, Richard (Retha) Cline, Springdale, Arkansas, Bradley (Claudia) Cline, Robertsdorf, Germany; grandchildren, Mark (Kristina) Schultz, Maureen Schultz, Michelle (Matt) Kibble, Kristin (Richard) Wilbert, Randi (Daniel) Green, Jackson (Tara) Cline, Gregory Paton, Brooke Eisenhart, and Brooke (Jim) Moore, great grandchildren, Tyler, Morgan, Olivia, Grant, Kennedy, Kristopher, and Siarah. He was preceded in death by his parents, Archie Nathan and Wilma (nee Crapo) Miller. Friends may call Wednesday, August 4, 2010 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. The Wellington Masonic Lodge #127 will conduct Masonic Services at 7 p.m. Funeral services will be Thursday, August 5, 2010 at 10 a.m. at the United Church of Christ Congregational, 990 State Street, Vermilion, Ohio. The Reverend Wendell Brooker, pastor, will officiate. Burial will be at Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst.
