George E. Gregory, Jr. 85, a Vermilion resident of 27 years, and formally of Rocky River, died peacefully Tuesday, February 14, 2012 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph with his family by his side. George was born in Corning, New York. He graduated from Western Reserve Academy and served in the United States Navy as LT JG. He graduated from the University of Michigan and Harvard Business School. George was active in business where he was President of Nelson Stud Welding a division of Gregory Industries in Lorain. He served on the Board of Directors of Fusion Inc. of Willoughby. He was involved in the early days of Lake Ridge Academy and served as one of its early presidents. His many activities included Rotary Club, member of the Young Presidents Organization, the Vermilion Family YMCA, and lifetime member of the Cleveland Yachting Club. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Vermilion. He and his wife Nan are known as avid sailors which led to his serving as Commodore of Sand Banks Yacht Club, Treasure Cay Bahamas, an area through which they sailed and lived for over 25 years. George was loved by all that knew him. He always had a smile on his face and kindness in his heart. ã He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Nancy "Nan" (nee Nielsen) Gregory; son, Stephen Gregory of St. Petersburg, FL and Vermilion; daughters, Laura (Glenn) Gregory Coggins of Taylors, SC and Judy (Michael) Gregory White of Granville, Ohio; daughter-in-law Pam Moes Gregory of Vermilion; 6 grandchildren: Charlotte Coggins, Gregory Coggins, Mike White Jr., Lindsay White, Colin White, and Molly Gregory; and sister, Judy Gregory Bowes of Washington, DC. He was preceded in death by his son, George E. Gregory III, and brother, Daniel Gregory. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, February 18, 2012 at 11:00 a.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church 3747 Liberty Avenue, Vermilion, Ohio 44089.
