Gretchen Neiding

January 26, 1935 — November 10, 2023

Gretchen Neiding (Kishman), aged 88, passed away on November 10, 2023, at Kingston of Vermilion, following a long battle with dementia.

Born on January 26, 1935, in Lorain, Gretchen had called Vermilion home for the past 39 years, having relocated from Birmingham, MI, where she spent the majority of her life.

A graduate of Wellesley College and Wittenberg University, Gretchen was an active member of the Alpha Delta Pi Sorority. She further pursued education at Newark State College and Wayne State University. Her career led her to work as a pre-school, 3rd-grade, and 4th-grade teacher in Echo Park, MI.

Devoted to her community, Gretchen was a member of the Vermilion United Church of Christ Congregational and had served on the architectural committee in the Vermilion Lagoons. She found joy in genealogy and bird watching.

Gretchen is survived by her daughter, Karin (Doug Curl) Hoover of Kingston Springs, TN; grandson, Richard Paul Lentz of FL; brother, Roger H Kishman of Dunn, NC; and her sister, Karin Kishman (David) Rathbun of Vermilion.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Neiding; parents, Lester H. and Almena (nee Yingling) Kishman; and her son, Richard Craig Neiding.
