Hubert B. Carty, 77 of Vermilion, died Wednesday, February 6, 2008 at his home in Vermilion. He was born May 29, 1930 in Coeburn, Virginia and had lived in Vermilion since 1958. He was a veteran of the United States Army serving in Vienna, Austria. He worked as a quality control inspector for Ford Motor, Lorain for 30 years retiring in 1991. Mr. Carty was a member of the Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed Church. He was commander of the VFW Post # 7576, Vermilion, a member of AMVETS Post #22, a life member of the American Legion Post #397; a member of Ely Masonic Lodge #424, the Royal Arch Masons, Eastern Star #204 where he was Worthy Patron for his 6th term; Scottish Rite Valley of Cleveland, Lorain County Scottish Rite Past President, and Vermilion Fish and Game. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and was a bee keeper. Survivors include his wife of 54 years, Hilda Marie (nee Collins); son, Verlin K. Carty of Wise, Virginia; daughter, Denise E. Zielske of Vermilion; 5 grandchildren, Keith Carty, David Carty, Samantha Yeager, Hannah Carty and Justin Zielske; 3 great grandchildren, Trey, Trent and Ethan; brothers, Oscar Carty, Bernice Carty Hurley Carty all of Berlin Heights. Preceding him in death were his parents, Willard and Nanie (nee Large), and brother, Buford Carty. Friends may call Friday, Feb. 7, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m.at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. An Eastern Star Service will be held at 7 p.m. followed by a Masonic Service at 7:15 p.m. Funeral services will be held Saturday at 11 a.m.at the funeral home. Reverends Nick Cacciatore and Don Resecker will co-officiate. The The Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military services. Private interment will be in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
