Kenneth F. Farschman, aged 85, passed away on Friday, October 27, 2023, at The Meadows at Osborn Park in Huron, after a prolonged illness. He was born on July 3, 1938, in Lorain, Ohio, and had been a resident of Vermilion for the last 59 years, having moved from Lorain.
Ken dedicated 31 years of his life to working as a Supervisor at Ford Motor Co., Lorain, before retiring in 1993. He was an esteemed member of the United Church of Christ Congregational and the Lorain Sports Hall of Fame. His involvement extended to various organizations, including the Lions Club, Jaycees, Eight Ball Dance Club, as well as several golfing Leagues at Willow Creek and Forest Hills. His passion for sports was evident from a young age, excelling in basketball in the Lorain YMCA A League, making the All-Star 1st team in 1956. However, baseball held a special place in his heart, leading him to shine in several Lorain Hot Stove Leagues. He later walked onto Bowling Green's baseball team and eventually played for the Detroit Tigers Minor League team. It was said that he hit the longest home run ever hit at Montgomery Field in Alabama, at well over 400 feet (and if you were to ask him, it’s still going up). Apart from this, he found joy in golfing with his wife and friends, but also playing softball.
He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Gayle Farschman of Vermilion, along with his son, Jeffrey Farschman of Salem, SC, his daughter, Vicki Zacher of Vermilion, and his grandchildren, Kurtis, Kyle, Kody, Kory, and Parker. He also leaves behind great-grandchildren, Cohen, Cole, Carson, Beckett, and Josie, as well as his sister, Carolyn Farschman of Lorain, sister in law, Maria Farschman and nephew, Brian Farschman, both of Lorain.
Ken was preceded in death by his parents, Carl E. and Rose (nee Gardner) Farschman, his step-mother, Julianna Farschman, and his brothers, Carl "Dutch" Farschman, Jack, James, and Ralph Beach.
