Laverne Neiding (nee Abercrombie), 71, of Vermilion, died Friday, December 20, 2013 at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a 1 month illness. Laverne was born June 16, 1942 in Ozark, Arkansas. She had been a Vermilion resident for the past 40 years. Laverne worked for St. Joseph Hospital and Community Health Partners as a medical transcriptionist. She had been a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She enjoyed NASCAR racing, reading, bowling and spending time with her grandchildren. She is survived by her husband of 44 years, James Neiding of Vermilion; a daughter, Michele (John) Taylor of Lorain; grandchildren, Brian Neiding and Emily Taylor; sister, Norma (Alan) Gottschling of Wakeman and her nieces. She was preceded in death by her parents, Benjamin and Alma (nee Wyers) Abercrombie; son Michael Neiding and a brother, Olen Abercrombie. The family will receive friends on Monday, December 23, 2013 from 10 a.m. until the time of a service at 11 a.m. at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. Reverend Paul Richardson will officiate. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
