Louis James Gehm

Louis James Gehm, 81, of Elyria, died Friday, October 15, 2010 at his daughter's home, after a 3 month battle with cancer. Born September 18, 1929 in McKeesport, PA he had been an Elyria resident for the past 28 years moving from Irwin, PA. Louis retired from Western Reserve Manufacturing in 1991 after 9 years. After retirement, he continued to work at various places including, Bob Evan in Elyria, Burger King in Sheffield, Golden Corral in Elyria, and the Holiday Inn in Elyria. He was a member of the United Methodist Church, Elyria and enjoyed woodworking, model trains, animals, camping, and he especially enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren. Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Gloria Gehm; daughter, Lorie (companion, James Muncy) Slater; son, James Gehm of Elyria; brother, Thomas Gehm of Confluence, PA; 1/2 brother, Mike Salai of CA; 1/2 sister, Suzanne Salai of Alabama; 4 grandchildren: Chad, Louis, Karoline, and Dylan; and 3 great-grandchildren: Anthony, Harley, and Bella. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Esther (nee Griffith) Gehm; infant son, Gerald Louis Gehm; brothers: Ralph, Steve, Robert, and William; sister, Esther Pomycala; and son-in-law Tony Slater. Friends may call Monday, October 18, 2010 at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street Vermilion Ohio from 12:30 pm until the time of the memorial service at 2:30 pm. The Reverend Dalton Love will officiate.
