Louis D. Kuhnle, 79, passed away on Thursday, October 12, 2023, at Stein Hospice,
following a lengthy illness.
Born on December 28, 1943, in Sandusky, Ohio, Louie had been a beloved lifelong
Vermilion resident. He was a class of 1962 graduate from Vermilion High School.
Louie was a devoted Veteran and patriot, who proudly served his country in the U.S.
Army from 1966 - 1971, achieving the rank of Staff Sergeant, working in Supply and as
an Armorer.
He served two combat tours in Vietnam from 1966 to 1967, earning the Purple Heart.
After his military service, Louie displayed his versatility through various professions. He
was a well-known Charter Fishing Boat Captain, navigating the waters of Lake Erie from
the Port of Vermilion. He also worked in masonry, carpentry, landscaping, and
snowplowing, leaving a lasting legacy of craftsmanship.
Louie was involved in many Veteran Service Organizations, especially the American
Legion Post # 397 of Vermilion, where he was an officer. He held the distinguished title
of former Commander at AMVETS Post 22 also of Vermilion. He was also a lifetime
member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #7576, and the Wakeman Eagles. His
passions included hunting, fishing, gardening, and an unwavering love for all things
automotive.
He leaves behind a cherished legacy of his family. Louie is survived by his loving wife of
53 years, Linda C. Kuhnle, of Vermilion, Ohio. He is also survived by his sons: Louis
(Kristen) Kuhnle of Marysville, Ohio; Matthew (Jody) Kuhnle of Clarksville, Tennessee;
Mark (Allison) Kuhnle of Vermilion, Ohio. His enduring memory lives on through his
nine grandchildren: Claire Kuhnle, Katelyn (Jordan) Cordell, Hunter Roberts, Katherine,
Jack, Eleanor Kuhnle, and Lincoln, Alexandra, and Adrianna Kuhnle; along with great-
grandsons Blake, Parker, and Lennon Cordell. He is also survived by his dear brother,
Kurt (Paulette) Kuhnle, also of Vermilion, Ohio.
Louie was preceded in death by his parents, Louis C. Kuhnle and Anna Belle (nee
Derby) Kuhnle.
A celebration of his life will be scheduled for 1PM - 4PM on November 11th, 2023 at the
American Legion Post #397 in Vermilion.
