Picture by email Lynford "Lindy" Orlo West, 84 of Vermilion, died Friday, July 14, 2006 in Kingston of Vermilion after a lengthy illness. He was born December 24, 1921 in Florence, Ohio and has been a life long Vermilion area resident. He was a WWII Navy veteran, serving in New Zealand, Alaska, and Japan. Mr. West graduated from Mt. Vernon Bible College, Mt. Vernon, OH. He worked as the minister of the International Church of the FourSquare Gospel, Vermilion (now Harbourtown Church).He owned and operated West Construction, building homes between 1946-1959. He then opened Lorain Tool Rental & Sales. He also had his private pilots license and flew out of Ortners Airport. He was a member of the International Church of the FourSquare Gospel, and AMVETS Post 22, Vermilion. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed publishing a Christian newsletter "From Our Home to Your Home". Survivors include his wife of 64 years, Dorothy M. (nee Kyle) West of Vermilion, son, Lindy West of Amherst; daughter, Barbara West-Feiszli of Vermilion, grandson, Darren West, granddaughters, Lisa Bivins and Valerie Tallhamer, and 5 great grandchildren: Derrick, Dylan, Danea Bivins, Nathan and Holden West. Preceding him in death were his parents, Otis and Lillian (nee Sprunk) West, grandson, Rev. Shane West and brothers, Richard, Robert and Edward West. Friends may call Monday, July 17, 2006 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home 5345 South St. Vermilion, OH. Services will be Tuesday, July 18, 2006 at 10:30 a.m. at the Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed Church, Ohio & Grand Streets, Vermilion, Ohio 44089 with the Reverend Norman Beetler, president of Busses International, Amherst, officiating. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military graveside honors.
