Macil Strader, 87, of South Amherst, died Saturday, November 26, 2022 at New Life Hospice in Lorain. Born February 24, 1935 in Cannan, WV, he lived most of his life in South Amherst.
Macil worked as a welder and relief man at Ford Motor, Lorain, from 1959 - 1989. He was a member of UAW #425. He coached South Amherst Little League Baseball and later umpired baseball in South Amherst. He had been vice president of the South Amherst Booster Club. He enjoyed fishing, watching the Cleveland Indians and other sporting events. He especially enjoyed his time spent with his granddaughters.
He is survived by his daughter, Kay (Ken) Wragg of Vermilion. He is survived by his granddaughters who lovingly referred to him as “Poppy”, Kristina (Tim) Gadomski of Wakeman, Kelly (Scott) Hartman and Kate (Matt) Deichler of Amherst, Erica Smith and Jennifer Strader; brother, Clark Strader of Amherst and half-brother, Floyd Bennett of Amherst.
He was preceded in death by parents, David and Lina (nee Riley) Strader; wife, Betty Strader (nee Bergam); son, Randy Strader, twin brother, Basil Strader; brothers, Ralph Strader and Ray Strader; half- brother, Clifford Bennett; and sisters, Maude Sinclair, Opal Sterrett, Ruth Miller, Mary Anderson and Florence Cesaro.
Friends may call Friday, December 2, 2022 at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio 44089 from 11 am until the time of the service at 1 pm. Pastor Tom Holzaepfel, will officiate.
The family suggests memorial contributions to New Life Hospice, 3500 Kolbe Road, Lorain, Ohio 44053 or the charity of the donor’s choice.
