Martha K. Long

Martha K. Long, (nee Koller), 86, of Vermilion, died Tuesday, November 4, 2008 at her home after a two year illness. She was born February 22, 1922 in Youngstown and had lived in Vermilion since 1957. She had also lived in Lorain. She worked in the accounting and purchasing department at Basic Food Materials, Vermilion (ITC) retiring in 1982. She served for 22 years as Business Manager of the Great Lakes Historical Society Museum (Inland Seas Maritime Museum) retiring in 1994. She also worked at the museum part time. She was also a member of the Firelands Tourist Council. She graduated from Elyria High School and was a charter member of Trinity Lutheran Church where she was financial secretary 18 years. She was a former member of the Business and Professional Women's Organization. She served on the Vermilion City Council 3 terms representing Ward II. Survivors include her sons, Richard Thomas (Marlene) Long of Sandusky and Bill (Wendy) Long of Elyria; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer Long, Tricia (Scott) Stradtman, Michelle (Steven) Wendland, Kyle Long, Jodi Long and Kelsi Long; great grandchildren, Addison Stradtman, and Kaleb Wendland; and nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband of 51 years, Thomas J. Long, May 21, 1995; parents, Adelbert and Mary (nee Ellis) Koller; and 2 brothers, Ben and Rudy Koller and a sister, Margaret Lingg. A memorial service will be held Saturday, November 8, 2008 at 2:30 p.m. at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3747 Liberty Ave, Vermilion, Ohio. Reverends Terry Parker and Larry Houff will officiate. Private inurnment will be in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst. Contributions may be made to the Memorial Fund at Trinity Lutheran Church, 3747 Liberty Ave., Vermilion, Ohio 44089; Stein Hospice, 1200 Sycamore Line, Sandusky, Ohio 44870, or the Great Lakes Historical Society, 480 Main Street, Vermilion, Ohio 44089. Arrangements are entrusted to Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion.
