Martin W. "Bill" Binder, 90 of Lorain, died Sunday, December 9, 2007 in New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain after a lengthy illness. He was born June 4, 1917 in Lorain where he has been a life long resident. He was a veteran of the US Army serving in Normandy, Northern France, Rhineland, Ardennes, and Central Europe under General Patten during WWII. He received the Bronze Star, Good Conduct Medal, European African Middle Eastern Campaign Medal with 5 Bronze Stars, and the WWII Victory Medal. He worked as a production manager for Retay Welding in North Ridgeville retiring in 1981. He had also worked for American Ship and White Roth both in Lorain. He was an active member of St. John's United Church of Christ, where he had served on the church council, was treasurer, and financial secretary. He was also a member of the Saxon Club, Lorain. He enjoyed model trains, bowling, playing 5 card pinochle, and was an avid sports fan. He especially enjoyed watching the Cleveland Browns, Cleveland Indians, and Ohio State football. Survivors include his wife of 66 years, Celia Mae Binder (nee Daub); daughter, Deborah Johnson of Amherst; son, Martin W. Binder of Troy, MI; 3 grandchildren; 1 great-granddaughter; and brother, George R. Binder of Findley, OH. Proceeding him in death were his parents, John and Anna (nee Shell) Binder; brother, John Binder and sister, Ann Jones. Friends may call Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2007 from 2-4 and 6-8 pm at the Dombrowski-Humphrey-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain, Ohio. Services will be held at the funeral home on Thursday, Dec. 13, 2007, at 1:00 pm with Rev. Phillip Kuntz officiating. Interment will follow in Ridge Hill Memorial Park, Amherst.
