Mary Jean Brill (nee Niemeth), 77 of Vermilion, died Thursday, August 21, 2008 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph, Lorain after a lengthy illness. She was born August 7, 1931 in Lorain and has been a Vermilion resident for 50 years. She had worked as an executive assistant for US Steel, Lorain. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion. She was also a member of the Lorain Eagles Auxiliary and the Vermilion Garden Club. She was route chairman for the Brownhelm Community Christmas for 33 years. She had been a Brownie Leader and Firelands PTA president. She loved to play cards, garden and play tennis. She enjoyed bowling and was on a senior bowling league at Lake Erie Lanes. She is survived by her husband of 50 years, Leonard J. Brill; 2 daughters, Patricia A. Brill, Ph.D. of Kemah, TX and Leslie J. Brill of Lakewood; 1 sister, Nancy C. Baird of Vermilion; a brother, Charles F. Niemeth of Greenwich, CT; 12 nieces and nephews and several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by a sister, Shirley A. Chatari and her parents, Charles and Christine (nee Mollison) Niemeth. The family will receive friends on Sunday, August 24, 2008 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. A Christian Wake Service will be held at 3:30 pm. Prayers will be said on Monday, August 25, 2008 at 10:30 am at the Riddle Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion at 11 am. The Reverend Jim Holmer, pastor, will officiate. Interment will be at Brownhelm Cemetery, Vermilion at later date. Memorial contributions may be made to the Susan G. Komen for the Cure, 5005 LBJ Fwy Ste 250, Dallas, TX 75244 or St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, Ohio 44089.
