Miriam Ruth Haynes, 88 of Barberton, died Wednesday, April 18, 2007 at Admiral's Pointe Nursing Home, Huron, where she had been residing for several months. Preceded in death by her parents Albert and Edith (nee Sohner) Haynes, and a brother, Robert Haynes, she was born, July 29, 1918 in Barberton, OH. She graduated from Barberton High School and Wittenberg University in Springfield, OH. While at Wittenberg, Miriam was actively involved in athletics, editor of the WITT Magazine, was a member of Delta Zeta sorority and the Wittenberg Choir. Miriam was an accomplished singer and taught music for over 35 years in the Akron area and retired while teaching at Kenmore High School. Music was her love. She also taught voice for many years and her passion for music and singing touched the lives of her many students who now live throughout the country. Miriam also sang with the renowned Robert Shaw Chorale. Another one of her joys was being the pianist for the Barberton Rotary Club for many years. In addition to her music, Mim loved to travel, having visited numerous countries throughout the world. She was a long time member of Quota International and Holy Trinity Lutheran Church of Akron where she was a member of the choir. Survivors include her niece, Lynda Wakefield of Vermilion; nephew, Robert Haynes, Jr. of Columbus; and cousins, Gene Hill of Coshocton, Clair Over of Barberton, Tom Haynes and Barbara Anderson of Wadsworth . A memorial service will be held Tuesday, May 1, 2007 at 11 am at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 50 North Prospect St, Akron, OH 44304 with Pastor David Scharf, Pastor Emeritus and Vicar Karlene Kinker, officiating. Interment will be in Greenlawn Memorial Park, Akron. Memorial contributions are suggested to Trinity Lutheran Church, 50 North Prospect St, Akron, OH 44304.
