Nick P. Tokar, 86, of Huron, died Sunday, April 11, 2004, in Kingston of Vermilion. He was born July 11, 1917 in Lorain, Ohio and had been a Huron-Vermilion resident since 1924. He worked as an assembler for Ford Motor in Lorain and had done masonry work. He was also a self-employed farmer. He served in the United States Army as a Private First Class in artillery. He was active in AMVETS Post 22, Vermilion and the VFW Post 7576 Vermilion. He had supported the VFW National Home for Children and enjoyed farming, hunting, and animals. He is survived by his sister, Elizabeth Horvat of Huron and several nieces and nephews. Preceding him in death were his wife, Betty Tokar in 1992; brothers, Louis Tokar and Frank Tokar; and sister, Margaret Nemeth, and Ann Churchill, and his parents Nicholas and Marie (Uveges) Tokar. Friends may call Thursday, April 15, 2004 from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. Funeral services will be held Friday at 11 a.m. at the funeral home. The Reverend Louis Bertoni, former pastor of the United Church of Christ Congregational, will officiate. Burial will be at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion. The Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct Military Graveside Services. Memorial contributions are suggested to the VFW National Home for Children, Ohio Cottage, 3573 S. Waverly, Eaton Rapids, MI 48827.
