Oscar Hayes

Oscar E.  Hayes, age 77, passed away March 30, 2024 at Mercy New Life Hospice in Lorain at 2:48 p.m. He was born in Drift, KY on February 14, 1947 and has lived in Vermilion, OH since 1980.

He graduated from Willard High School in 1966 and went right into the Navy, he served from 1966 until 1969. He worked in the School System in Monroeville, and Zanesville, Ohio and worked at the Monroeville Truck Stop and at Vermilion School until he retired in 2001.

Oscar was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church in Vermilion. He enjoyed antique cars, car shows, collecting and selling spark plugs, and going to Hershey, PA to sell antique car parts.

He leaves behind his wife of 58 years, Linda S. Hayes of Vermilion; daughters, Joselynn S. Hayes of Vermilion, and Theresa L. Hayes of North Carolina, and son, Robert E. Hayes of Lagrange. He also had two brothers Carl (Pete) Hayes of Plymouth and John  Hayes of Atlanta, TX. Oscar also leaves behind 7 grandkids and 4 great grandchildren and 1 on the way.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Woodrow and Josephine Hayes and a sister, Glema Meade.

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Friday, April 5, 2024 from 11 am until the time of service at 1:00 p.m. at Riddle Funeral Home. Reverend Cliff Morris will officiate.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Lakeview Baptist Church, 591 Ferndale Ave, Vermilion, OH 44089.
