Patricia S. Thayer (nee Sandak), 85, of Vermilion, passed into the loving arms of her departed husband on March 8, 2018 at Kingston Residence. She was born August 15, 1932 and was a lifelong resident of Vermilion. Pat graduated from Vermilion High School in 1950 and Bowling Green State University in 1968. She received her Masters in Education from St. Joseph College in Cincinnati. Patricia worked for Vermilion Schools as a kindergarten teacher at South Street School for 25 years, retiring in 1994. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, Vermilion where she served as the 10am Mass organist for 35 years. She was also a member of Joyful Noise, Martha (meals after funerals), the Vermilion Community Band, VHS Alumni Band, Patriots Band of Elyria, Erie County Chapter of the Ohio Retired Teachers Association, and the Vermilion College Club. Pat was a lifetime multiple gallon blood donor. She was appointed a CASA advocate (a volunteer organization that speaks for the interests of children in court). She loved flowers, quilting, playing cards and traveling, especially with her grandchildren. Pat always said that if she had it to do all over again, she would marry the same man, teach kindergarten, play her horn in the band, play the organ at church and dabble in watercolor. She ended the prayer at each meal with, "â¦and thank you Lord for family. They make it all worthwhile." Pat is survived by her daughters, Judith (Rick) Randleman Hann of Carroll, Iowa; Susan E. (Karen Foreman) of Vermilion; sons Paul M. Thayer of Lorain and Timothy J. Thayer of Huron; and beloved grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul I. Thayer in 1997; parents Michael F. and Velma E. (nee Welch) Sandak; and her brothers Robert and David Sandak. The family will receive friends on March 13th from 2-4pm and 7-9pm at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion with a brief service at 8:30pm. Prayers will be said at the Riddle Funeral Home on March 14th at 10:30 am followed by an 11am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion.
