Robert J. Karish, Sr., age 71, of Lorain, died Monday, March 8, 2004 at his home. He was born September 20, 1932 in Lorain where he has lived most of his life. He had also lived in California for 8 years, returning in 1982. Until his retirement, he had worked as a security guard for the Ford Motor Company in Lorain for 8 years. He had previously worked for the US Steel Company for 17 years. He was a US Navy Veteran serving aboard the USS Coral Sea. He served from 1951-1955 during the Korean Conflict. He was a life member of the FOPA and the VFW Post 1662 in Amherst. He was also a member of the Civil Air Patrol Search and Rescue Team and the Blue Knights. He enjoyed fishing and traveling. Survivors include his wife of 12 years, Paula J. Karish (nee Wilker) of Lorain; his mother, Ann Gall of Lorain; daughter, Barbara Spaich of Avon Lake; sons, Robert J. Karish, Jr. of Naples, Florida and Kenneth Scott Karish of Lorain; 3 grandchildren; sister, Mariann Leonard of Culver City, CA; several neices and nephews. Preceding him in death was his father, George Gall. Friends may call on Thursday, March 11, 2004 from 4-8 pm at the Dombrowski-Volak-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain, Ohio. Graveside services will be held at the Calvary Cemetery, North Ridge Road, on Friday, March 12, 2004 at 11:00am. Military Honors will be conducted by the Amherst Veterans Council.
