Russell H. "Buss" Darley, 92, of Vermilion Twp., passed away Saturday morning, February 20, 2010 in Firelands Regional Medical Center Main Campus. He was born February 10, 1918 in Brownhelm, OH and had lived in Mitiwanga for the past 65 years. He graduated from Vermilion High School and attended Miami University until leaving to join the Army Air Corps during WWII. He became a Captain and was a pilot of a B-24 Bomber, flying 35 missions over the Central-Pacific Theater. He worked many years at the Kishman Fish Co. in Vermilion and was an expert fish filleter. He retired from ITT Wakefield in 1983 after 31 years where he worked as a general foreman of shipping. Buss was a member of AMVETS Post #22, American Legion Post #397, and VFW Post #7576. He enjoyed golfing, fishing, and following sports, especially Ohio State football. He also played every sport during his school days and was a member of the Miami University football team. He had a great voice and loved singing Barbershop with his father-in-law and brother-in-law, Roy and Bob Kennedy. Survivors include his daughter and son-in-law, Marsha and Terry Howk of Huron; son, Hugh Darley of Miramar Beach, Florida; four grandson, Mike Knittle, Matt Knittle, Hugh Darley II, and David Howk; three granddaughters, Stacy Darley, Lyndsay Darley, and Linda Howk; nine great-grandchildren, two nephews, one niece, and his very special love, his beagle Tippy. He was preceded in death by his wife of almost 53 years, Dorothy Darley (nee Kennedy) in 1998; parents, Phillip and Augusta (nee Leidheiser) Darley; and his brother Myron.
