Walter "Wally" Thomas Wellner, 72, of Vermilion, died Tuesday, January 13, 2015 at Hospice of the Western Reserve after a short illness. Wally was born December 7, 1942 in Cleveland, and had been a life long Vermilion resident. He was a veteran of the Marines Corp serving during the Cold War. Wally worked as a bus driver and mechanic for the Vermilion Schools for 28 years retiring in 1998. He was a member of Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed Church. He was also a member of the NRA and a life member of the Vermilion AMVETS Post # 22 and American Legion Post # 397. He enjoyed chopping wood, mowing, and plowing. He was very active at Volunteer Bay where he lived. He is survived by his daughter, Rebecca (Rick) Missig of Vermilion; sons, Joshua (Paige) Thayer of Wakeman and Ronald Wellner of Amherst; grandson, Kaleb; granddaughter, Leigh Ann; great grandson, Jordan; brother, Paul Wellner of Vermilion; and sister, Kate Radosevich of FL. He was preceded in death by his parents, Walter P. and Bridget "Betty" (nee Forry) Wellner The family will receive friends on Thursday, Jan. 22, 2015 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH where the Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct military honors at 4:00 pm. Funeral services will be Friday, Jan. 23, 2015 at 10:00 am at the Riddle Funeral Home. The Reverend Nick Cacciatore will officiate. Interment will follow at Resthaven Memory Gardens, Avon.
