William R. Tarrant

William R. Tarrant, 86, of Vermilion, died Wednesday, January 7, 2015 at Mill Manor Nursing Home after a short illness. William was born March 25, 1928 in Amherst and had been a life long Vermilion resident. He was a veteran of the US Army serving during the Korean War. William started his career at his parents newspaper, Vermilion News, as a printer. He then worked for Firelands Floors in Vermilion as a truck driver and installer, retiring in 1999. William was also a fireman for the Vermilion Fire Department for 37 years. He was a member of the Vermilion United Church of Christ Congregational, Vermilion VFW Post # 7576, and the Vermilion Fire Association. He enjoyed woodworking and camping, especially in the National Parks. He is survived by his daughters, Barbara (Larry) Akers of Vermilion, Patricia (Bill) Goetz of Cincinnati, and Lorri (Joe) Arizmendi of Elyria; grandchildren, Jessica, Steve, Dianna, Brian, Christie (Shawn), and Bill (Elizabeth); great grandchildren, Billy and Connor; sisters, Nancy Emery and Ginny Wilkes both of Vermilion; and brother, Richard N. Tarrant of Vermilion. He was preceded in death by his wife, Lois (nee Stockman) Tarrant in 2014; son, Allan Paul Tarrant; parents, William Basil and Ella (nee Roscoe) Tarrant, brothers, Philip and Albert C. Tarrant; and sisters, Eleanor Slocum, and Zella Bolyard. The family will receive friends on Saturday, Jan. 10, 2015 from 11:00 am until the time of a funeral service at 1:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH. The Vermilion Veterans Council will perform military honors and the Vermilion Fire Department will have honors just prior to the funeral service at 1:00 pm. The Reverend Bob Richardson will officiate. Inurnment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion at a later date.
