William S. DeLamatre, 87, of Vermilion, died Wednesday, November 23, 2016 at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a lengthy illness. He was born October 15, 1929 in Monroeville,and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 66 years. William was a veteran of the US Navy serving during the Korean War. William owned and operated Brushaber Plumbing and Heating for 40 years retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Vermilion United Church of Christ Congregational and the American Legion Post #397. He had been a member of the AMVETS Post #22, VFW Post #7576, Lions Club, and served as a volunteer on the Vermilion Fire Department. He enjoyed civil war history, building models, and was a master at tinkering. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Elsie (nee Opfer) Delamatre; sons, David (Pat) DeLamatre of Erick, OK, Ned (Jodie) DeLamatre of Akron, and James (Caroline) DeLamatre of Orange Village, OH; grandchildren: Amanda, David, Isaac, Andrew, and Vern; step grandchildren: Carey, Jennifer, Melissa, and Sandy; great grandchildren, Emma, Jack, Amitai, Maddie, Noella, and Asher; 10 step great grandchildren; and twin brother, Ward DeLamatre of Huron. He was preceded in death by his parents, Howard and Mary (nee Pilkey) DeLamatre and his brothers, Richard and Howard DeLamatre. The family will receive friends on Saturday, Nov. 26, 2016 from 10:00 a.m. until the time of a memorial service at 12 Noon at the United Church of Christ Congregational, 990 State Street, Vermilion, OH.
