Alan Wayne Wiencke, 64, of Amherst, died Monday, January 20, 2014 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph after a short illness. Alan was born February 20, 1949 in Elyria and had been an Alaskan resident for 25 years before moving to Amherst in 2007. He was a veteran of the US Air Force serving during the Vietnam Era. Alan had worked for Kenworth Trucking Co. as a parts manager. Alan's true passion was being in Alaska. He also enjoyed drag racing, genealogy, visiting Amish country; and reconnecting with old friends over coffee or at Sterk's Restaurant. He loved animals, especially his dogs, Kiska and Jake, and cat Willy. He is survived by his wife, Monica McGlothlin of Amherst; sisters, Linda (Robert) Kelley of Amherst and Barbara (Robert) Andolsek of Wakeman; nieces, Karen Lear and Katy Brill; and nephews, Scott Haber and Mark Haber. He was preceded in death by his parents, Willis and Beulah (nee Hite) Wiencke; sister Donna Boone; and nephews, David Boone and Don Brill. The family will receive friends on Saturday, Jan. 25, 2014 from 2:00 pm until the time of veterans honors and a memorial service at 3:00 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH. The Vermilion Veterans Council will conduct Military Honors and the Reverend Jim Peter will officiate. Interment will take place on Monday, Jan. 27, 2014 at 11:00 am at Brownhelm Cemetery.
