Alfred N. Budka, age 80, of Lorain, died Monday, July 26, 2004 at Autumn Aegis Nursing Home in Lorain. He was born on September 17, 1923 in Lorain and has been a lifelong resident. He was a graduate from Lorain High School Class of 1941 and a United States Marine Corp Veteran serving as Corporal during WWII from December 10, 1942 to December 24, 1945. His tour of duty took him to the western Pacific and most notably he participating in action against the enemy in the Battle for Peleliu, Palau Islands, a battle that cost over 12,000 lives. Mr. Budka served the City of Lorain as a Fire Fighter for 31 years, retiring in 1984. He was a member of St. Mary on the Lake Catholic Church, the Knights of Columbus, Knights of St. John, the Sierra Club, Polish Legion of American Veterans Post 38 and the United Polish Club, all in Lorain. He enjoyed golfing and bowling. Survivors include his sons, Allan Budka of Houston, TX and Mark Budka of Vermilion; brother, Edmund Budka of Seattle, WA. He was preceded-in-death by his wife, Mary Regis (nee Kempt) Budka, a son, Kevin Budka in 2003, parents, Joseph and Stella (nee Dymek) Budka, brothers, Chester, Thaddeus, Henry and Jan Budka and a sister, Jane Budka. The family will receive friends on Thursday, July 29, 2004 from 4-8 pm at the Dombrowski-Volak-Riddle Funeral Home, 1939 Oberlin Avenue, Lorain, Ohio. Prayers will be said at the funeral home at 9:30 am on Friday, July 30, 2004 followed by a 10:00 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary on the Lake Catholic Church, 309 7th St., Lorain. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery. Distingushed services and Honor Guard will be conducted by the Fire Fighters IAFF Local 267 as well as services of military honor provided by the VFW Mullens-Murray Post #451. Contributions may be made to the St. Mary on the Lake Catholic Church, 309 7th St., Lorain, Ohio 44052 .
