Alfred Lewis Cecil

Nov 27, 1953 — Oct 27, 2026

Wakeman

Alfred Lewis Cecil, 72, of Wakeman, passed away Tuesday, October 27, 2026, at his home following a lengthy illness.

He was born November 27, 1953, in Louisville, KY and had been a Wakeman resident for the past 40 years, moving from Lorain.

Al worked for Ford Motor Company for 31 years, holding various positions throughout his career before retiring in 2002. Following his retirement, he continued working as a school bus driver for First Student in Lorain for 10 years.

He had a deep love for the outdoors, especially fishing and boating. He treasured his time on the water and found just as much enjoyment in sharing his passion with others as he did in casting a line himself.

Al was an active and devoted member of Church of the Open Door. His dedication to his church and community was evident in the countless ways he gave of his time and talents. Whether lending a hand with construction projects, helping a neighbor, or volunteering wherever he was needed, Alfred was always willing to pitch in. He was a friendly and caring neighbor who believed in helping others and making a difference in the lives of those around him.

Al also enjoyed playing darts, but above all, he cherished time spent with his family and friends. He took a special interest in his nieces and nephews, serving as a mentor and positive influence in their lives. His kindness, willingness to help others, and love for his family, church, and community will be fondly remembered by all who knew him.

He is survived by his wife of 50 years, Dzidra "Zee" (nee Vitols) Cecil; son, Kyle (Serena Nguyen) Cecil; daughter, Liga Lundvall; siblings, Charlie (Rhonda) Cecil, Kathi Howard, Gary Cecil, Irma (Darrell) Quinn, and Heather (Greg) Davis; many cherished nieces and nephews, especially Joe (Megan) Howard, Justin Howard, and Keith Cecil; numerous great-nieces and great-nephews; sister-in-law, Dana Cecil; and his extended church family, friends and neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Herbert Leo and Anita (nee Westfall) Cecil; siblings, Debbie Kremer, Pam Beaver, and Alan Cecil; and brother-in-law, Don Howard.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, November 14, 2026, from 2:00 p.m. until the time of the memorial service at 3:00 p.m. at Church of the Open Door, 1230 Beechview Drive, Vermilion, OH 44089.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Church of the Open Door's Bethlehem Walk, 1230 Beechview Drive, Vermilion, OH 44089.
