Alice Jane Kreps

Alice Jane Kreps (nee Sanker), 90 years of age, passed away on Oct. 30, 2013 at New Life Hospice of St. Joseph, Lorain, OH, following a brief illness. Born on December 25, 1922 in Elyria, OH, she was the daughter of the late Grover and Lillian Sanker (Merthe). Her beloved husband of 52 years, Donald H. Kreps, preceded her in death in 1994. Also preceding her passing were sister, Yvonne Allen and sons-in-law, Calvin Freund and Steven Mackin. Alice and Don moved to Vermilion from Charleston, WV following his retirement. Their summers had always been spent by the lake, so they welcomed this new part of their lives. While in Charleston, Alice was a busy homemaker raising four children. She was an active member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Charleston. Garden club events were also a big part of her life. After settling in Vermilion, they joined Trinity Lutheran Church. Alice enjoyed her time as a volunteer at the church. She also belonged to various quilting groups in the area. Gardening and traveling were two favorite activities. Alice's four children, eight grandchildren, and four great-grandsons were always the joy of her life. Family gatherings at the lake created cherished memories. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her children, Susan (Roy) Metcalf of Kent, OH, Sally Freund of Perrysburg, OH, Donna Mackin of Vermilion, and William Kreps of Vermilion. Grandchildren include Matthew (Amanda) Metcalf, Todd (Jessica) Metcalf, Laura (Matt) Lochtefeld, Kristen Mackin, Ryan Mackin, Ann (Matt) Wood, Amanda (Stephen) Regan, and Megan Kreps. She was GG (great-grandmother) of Gabriel Wood, Joshua and Caleb Lochtefeld, and William Metcalf. Alice is also survived by many dear nieces, nephews, and friends. Private graveside services have been held by the family. A celebration of Alice's life will take place in Vermilion next summer, her favorite time of year.
