Alice Jane McClurkin, 88 of Vermilion, died Friday, November 16, 2007 at her home following a lengthy illness. She was born January 31, 1919 in Lorain and has been a life long Vermilion resident. She graduated from Vermilion High School, Miami University, Oxford, OH and took graduate courses at Cleveland College and Cleveland Institute of Music. She briefly worked at the Lorain Morning Journal as a desk editor. She was a member of the United Church of Christ Congregational, Vermilion, past president of the Vermilion College Club, Madeleine Chapter #204 Order of Eastern Star where she held several officer positions, and the Yarum Ines Jesterettes of Cleveland. She studied piano all of her life and was active in music circles in the area. As an accomplished pianist, she played for many church services and accompanied many high school musicals. She also enjoyed playing in piano recitals, gardening, and playing bridge. Survivors include her husband of 60 years, Edward A. McClurkin; son, Jack McClurkin of Hoffman Estates, IL; daughter, Jane McClurkin-Climer of Stevensville, MI; and 8 grandchildren. Preceding her in death were her parents, Charles M. and Minnie (nee Kuehlman) Gegenheimer, 3 brothers: James, Louis, and Charles Gegenheimer; and 3 sisters: Elsie MacCutcheon, Edna Hull, and Claribel Thomson.. Friends may call Friday, Nov. 23, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Services will be held at 10:00 am at the United Church of Christ Congregational, 990 State Street Vermilion, OH, on Saturday, Nov. 24, 2007 with Reverend Wendell Brooker and Rev.
