Alice "Mitzie" Amelia Schafer (nee Grisel), 99, of Vermilion, died Monday, November 5, 2012 at Kingston of Vermilion where she made her home for 16 years. Amelia was born February 2, 1913 in Vermilion where she has been a life long resident. She worked part time for Schwensen Bakery in Vermilion and had been a member of Vermilion Evangelical and Reformed Church. She enjoyed planting flowers, working around the yard, playing bingo and spending time with family. She is survived by her daughter, Grace Phillips of Vermilion; sons, Charles (Ruth) Schafer of Vermilion, Harold (Jessie) Schafer of Berlin Heights, Albert (Wanita) Schafer of Vermilion; 12 grandchildren; 11 great grandchildren; 8 great great grandchildren; and her sister, Betty (Leo) Dickel of Vermilion. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles "Chip" Schafer in 1970; infant son, William Schafer; parents, Conrad and Martha (nee Sennhenn) Grisel, brothers , John, Adam, Nick, William, Albert, Ted and Conrad Grisel, sisters, Emma Marks, Mathilda Kidd, Mabel Dickerhoff. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Nov. 7, 2012 from 4-8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street Vermilion Ohio. Funeral services will be Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 at 11 am at the Riddle Funeral Home. The Reverend Nick Cacciatore will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
