Alvah Alexander Dearth, 90, of Vermilion, died Friday, January 22, 2016 at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a short illness. He was born September 3, 1925 in New Lebanon, OH, and had been a Vermilion resident since 1989 moving from Strongsville. Al was a veteran of the US Army serving during World War II. He worked for Harris Corp. both in Dayton and Cleveland as a service correspondent for 36 years. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Vermilion where he was an usher. He was also a member of the American Legion Post # 424 and Disable American Veterans. Al enjoyed golfing, jig saw puzzles, western movies, and working outdoors. He is survived by his sons, Douglas (Dawn) Dearth of Vermilion and Roger Dearth of Bangkok, Thailand; and brother, Paul Dearth of Lewisburg. He was preceded in death by his wife, Betsy (nee Keathley) Dearth in 2012; parents, Walter and Leona (nee Raley) Dearth; and brothers, Richard, Russell, and Norman Dearth. The family will receive friends at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion on Thursday, January 28, 2016 from 4:00 pm until the time of Military Honors presented by the Vermilion Veterans Council at 7:00 pm. A Memorial service will immediately follow the veterans service with Pastor Rich Leseganich officiating. Inurnment will take place at Maple Grove Cemetery at a later date.
