Andrew J. Mayer

Andrew J. Mayer, 83 of Vermilion, died Thursday, January 4, 2007 in Mill Manor Nursing Home after a lenghty illness. He was born September 19, 1923 in Vermilion and has been a life long resident. He worked for Ohio Edison Company as a line serviceman for 41 years, retiring in 1987. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Vermilion. He was also a member of the Vermilion Fish and Game Club and the National Rifle Association. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He is survived by his daughters, Beverly Haynes and Kathleen Haynes, both of Vermilion; sons, Ralph E. Mayer and Michael P. Mayer, both of Vermilion; 11 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; sister, Mary Beursken; brother, Franklin Mayer of Vermilion. He was preceded-in-death by his wife, Shirley A. Mayer on September 18, 1986; his parents, Joseph and Anna (nee Roth) Mayer, sisters, Anna Bringman, Josephine Beursken, Elizabeth Marks and Dorothy Burke, brothers, John, William, Nicholas, Arthur and Peter Mayer. The family will receive friends on Friday, January 5, 2007 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. Military honors will be conducted by the Vermilion Veteran's Council at 7:15 pm and a Christian wake service will be at 8:30 pm. Vistitation will continue on Saturday, January 6, 2007 from 10:00am until the time of closing prayers at 10:30am. A Mass of Christian Burial will follow at 11:00 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion. The Reverend Jim Holmer, pastor, will be the celebrant. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery.
