Arthur R. Crow Jr., 84, of Vermilion, died Wednesday, November 13, 2013 at Kingston of Vermilion after a lengthy illness. Arthur was born June 26, 1929 in Detroit, MI, moved with his family to Vermilion in 1944 and he graduated from Vermilion High School in 1947. Art attended Michigan State University for 3 years, before enlisting in the United States Marines Corps, serving during the Korean War, was discharged as a Staff Sergeant. After returning from the service, Art joined his father in the Crow Lumber Co., started by his dad in 1944. Arthur was the owner and the president of the Crow Lumber Co. until the lumber company closed its doors in 1994. Art continued working in the lumber business, hired by Wolohan Lumber Co. in Milan, Ohio and then Home Lumber in Norwalk, until his retirement in 2009. Art served on Vermilion City Council for 10 years, serving as President during 1965-1967 and as Mayor form 1975-1976. He was a life member of Vermilion AMVETS Post 22, Vermilion American Legion Post 397, Vermilion VFW Post 7576, Vermilion Rotary Club and the Lumberman's Association,. He enjoyed bowling, golf, loved to watch sports, but truly loved reading, and when he was able, Ritter Library was his favorite place to be. He is survived by his wife, Joan (nee Nielsen) of Vermilion; daughter, Tracy (Mark) Williamson of Columbus; son, Timothy (Karen) Crow of Vermilion, step daughters, Meredith Russell of Elyria, and Megan Russell of Tiffin; his grandsons, Tony Crow of Vermilion and Josh Bednarski of Elyria, his sister, Frances Dreyer of Norwalk and his best little "pal" Abby. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur R. and Clossie (nee Wallace) Crow, Sr. Family graveside services will be held at Maple Grove Cemetery at a later date.
