Berneita L. Tansey

July 28, 1925 — February 19, 2006

Berneita Lucy Tansey (nee Ferber), 80, of Vermilion died Sunday, February 19, 2006 at home following a lengthy illness. Born in Berlin Heights July 28, 1925 she had lived in Vermilion since grade school. She graduated from Vermilion High School in 1943. She worked as a welder during the war, worked in the Ship Yards and graduated from M.B. Johnson School of Nursing, Elyria. She retired in 1993 as a surgical nurse at Elyria Memorial Hospital. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church, enjoyed travel, reading, learning, gardening and building things. She was a selfless mother and never tired in her efforts for support of and dedication to her family. Her love was genuinely unconditional. She is survived by her husband, James Edward Tansey to whom she was married 58 years; daughters, Martha Foltz, Deshler, OH, Teresa Caldwell, Athens, OH; sons, James Tansey, Wakeman, Nelson Tansey, Kalamazoo, Michigan, Martin Tansey, Lorain; 19 grandchildren; sisters, Nellie Huttenlocker, Huron, Alice Kozloski, Lorain and brother, Nelson Ferber, Berlin Heights. She was preceded in death by her parents, Nelson Elias and Mabel (nee Johannsen) Ferber and step- mother Cora Green Ferber. Friends may call Wednesday February 22, 2006 from 2 to 8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion. Prayers will be said at the funeral home on Thursday February 23, 2006 at 9:30 am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am at St. Mary Catholic Church, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion. Father Jim Holmer will officiate. Burial will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary School Endowment Fund, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, Ohio 44089 or the Charity of the Donor's Choice.
