Bertha C. "Chip" Hofecker (nee Engbert), 79, of Vermilion, died Thursday, March 10, 2011 at Kingston of Vermilion after a lengthy illness. Bertha was born April 20, 1931 in Johnstown, PA, and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 47 years moving from Indiana, PA. Bertha worked in the store at Miller's Orchard, Acme Market in the Meat Department, and filled vending machines at Clovervale Foods. She was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church. She enjoyed taking care of her children and cooking, especially making peanut butter fudge. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Theodore Hofecker; sons, James (Kathi) Hofecker of Wakeman and Theodore "Ted" (Rhonda Emery) Hofecker of Amherst Twp.; daughters, Barb (Terie Furtney) Hofecker of San Leandro, CA and Donna Breeyear of Alexandria, Virginia; 8 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; brother, John Engbert of Highland Heights; sisters, Ellen Killen of Indiana, PA, Agnes Burns of Johnstown, PA, Barb Marhefka of St. Clairsville, and Becky Stiffler of Johnstown, PA. She was preceded in death by her sons, Brian Edward in 1993 and Donald Myron in 1997; parents, Frank and Agnes (nee Boyle) Engbert; sister: Susie Engbert, Catherine Kohjar; and brothers: Francis, Henry, Tommy, Jimmie, and Paul Engbert. The family will receive friends on Monday, March 14, 2011 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street Vermilion Ohio. Prayers will be said at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 15, 2011 at 10:00 am followed by a 10:30 am Mass of Christian Burial at St. Mary Catholic Chruch731 Exchange Street, Vermilion. Father Ron Brickner will officiate. Interment will follow at Brownhelm Cemetery, Vermilion.
