Bessie L. Major (nee Light), 95, of Vermilion, died Tuesday, March 1, 2016 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph after a lengthy illness. She was born October 2, 1920 in Canton and had been a Vermilion resident for the past 59 years moving from Elyria. Bessie worked as a Booth Clerk for Ridge Tool, Elyria for 26 years retiring in 1982. She enjoyed crocheting, crossword puzzles, Cardinals, and watching western movies and the Cleveland Indians. She is survived by18 grandchildren, many great grandchildren and great-great grandchildren; and sisters, Carolyn Jefferies of Onalaska, WA, and Nora Phillips of Cullman, AL She was preceded in death by her husband, James Major in 2002; parents, Merlin W. Light and Magdelene T. (nee Blaser) Major; daughters, Florence Cajka , Barbara Parnell, and Catherine Spraque; son, Robert Weiss; and sister Norma Jean Baker. The family will receive friends on Friday, March 4, 2016 from 4 to 8 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 5, 2016 at 11 am at the funeral home. The Chaplain Jim Smucker will officiate. Interment will follow at Brownhelm Cemetery, Vermilion.
