Betty S. Folkens (nee Statler), 68, of Vermilion, died Saturday, January 11, 2014 at New Life Hospice Center of St. Joseph after a short illness. She was born February 25, 1945 in Waynesburg, PA to John and Edna (nee Roupe) Statler, one of 12 siblings. She had been a Vermilion resident for the past 48 years moving from PA. Betty worked for Lorain National Bank for 24 years, working in the Vermilion, Lorain, and Amherst offices, before retiring in 2000. She was a member of Grace United Methodist Church, Vermilion. She enjoyed playing golf, playing on a couples league with her husband, and also on the First Ladies Golf League. She also enjoyed reading, sewing, and spending time with friends in FL. Betty especially enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, whom she affectionately referred to as her "babies", and attending their activities. She is survived by her husband of 48 years, David Folkens of Vermilion; son, Douglas (Sharon) Folkens of Cincinnati; daughters, Paula (David) Pauly of Tiffin and Lisa (Robert) Lord of Mentor; grandchildren: Maxwell, Spencer, Rachel, Ross, Alyson, Brytnie, Nicholas, Benjamin, Olivia, Jacob, and Madeline. The family will receive friends on Wednesday, Jan. 15, 2014 from 2-4 and 7-9 pm at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, OH. Funeral services will be Thursday, Jan. 16, 2014 at 11:00 am at the funeral home. The Reverend David Hull-Frye will officiate. Interment will follow at Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
