Billy Grayson Sandefur, 80, of Amherst, passed away peacefully on Friday, January 17, 2025, at the Hero's Harbor Hospice at Louis Stokes VA Medical Center after a lengthy illness.
Born on July 11, 1944, in Jewel City, Kentucky, Bill was a long-time resident of Vermilion before making his home in Amherst for the past 15 years.
A proud veteran of the United States Air Force, Bill served his country honorably from 1963 to 1967. He continued to exemplify hard work and dedication in his career, retiring as Vice President of Harrison Manufacturing in 2006.
Bill was an active member of AMVETS and found joy in life’s simple pleasures, such as playing golf, softball, and cherishing time spent with family and friends.
He is survived by his wife of 27 years, Sandra Sandefur; his children, Brian Sandefur, Shawn (Dian) Sandefur and Brett Sandefur; and his stepchildren, Jamie (Summer) Warzinik, Scott (Carol) Perkins amd Karen Hafer. Bill also leaves behind many adored grandchildren and great-grandchildren, as well as his brother-in-law, Gerald (Billie) Ashby.
Bill was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Winnie (née Scott) Sandefur; and eight brothers and two sisters.
Family and friends are invited to celebrate Bill’s life on Saturday, January 25, 2025, from 3:00 to 5:00 PM with military honors presented at 5p.m. at Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions be made to the Friendship Animal Protective League of Lorain County, Inc., 8303 Murray Ridge Road, Elyria, OH 44035.
