Carla S. Widdowson, 72, of Vermilion, died Thursday, March 17, 2011 at Mercy Regional Medical Center after a short illness. Carla was born September 1, 1938 in Indiana, PA. She had been a Vermilion resident for the past 51 years, moving from Johnstown, Pa. She graduated from Dennison University with a Bachelor of Arts degree and received a Masters Degree from Bowling Green State University. Carla worked as a Congressional Assistant for Congressman Charles Mosher and also was a school teacher, accountant and contributor to the Vermilion PhotoJournal. She was a member of Vermilion College Club, the Vermilion Boat Club where she was head of the Race Committee, and the United Church of Christ Congregational in Vermilion where she sang and rang in the church choirs; she also played in the Windjammers Big Band and the Vermilion Community Band. She assisted in theater productions in New England as well as with the Vermilion High School Theater. In her spare time, Carla enjoyed reading, playing bridge, playing the saxaphone, painting, and sailing. She also designed puzzles such as word searches and sudoku's for the senior center in Sandusky. She is survived by her sister Linda (Neil) Richards of Pittsford, NY; neice Vandy Richards of Gaithersburg, MD; nephew Devin (Linda) Richards of Piffard, NY, 2 great nieces and a great nephew. She was preceded in death by her parents Bess (nee Lankford) and Carl Widdowson. A memorial service will be held in her honor at The United Church of Christ Congregational on Saturday, April 30th, 2011 at 2:00PM.
