Carleton William Vobbe

Carleton William "Bill" Vobbe, Jr., 72 of Vermilion, died Thursday, September 3, 2009 in Fairview Hospital. He was born October 2, 1936 in Akron and has been a Vermilion resident since 1999, moving from Silver Lake, OH. He was a Wittenberg University and Ohio State University graduate where he was involved with the ATO fraternity. He served in the Army Reserves. Bill worked for Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. for 32 years as a world wide manager of their Roofing Products Division, retiring in 1995. He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Vermilion where he was on the stewartship committee and church council.He was very active with the Salvation Army regional office in Cleveland and mentored the Blessings Program. He was a member of Vermilion Lions Club. He enjoyed water sports, hiking, traveling, genealogy, spending time with his grandchildren, and was a regular volunteer with the special Olympics. Survivors include his son, Stephen and his wife Julia Vobbe of Houston, TX; grandchildren, Isabelle and Jake Vobbe; sisters, Chris Cleverdon of Boston, Mass and Gretchen Marohn of Los Angeles, CA; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his wife, Joan in 1996; a son, Eric Vobbe in 2003 and his parents, Carleton William, Sr. and Ruth (nee Arduser) Vobbe.. Memorial services will be held Wednesday, Sept.9, 2009 at 7 p.m. the Trinity Lutheran Church, 3747 Liberty Ave. Vermilion. Private inurnment will be in Chestnut Hill Cemetery, Cuyahoga Falls.
