Vermilion

Carolyn A. Habermehl (née Thornsbury), 83, of Vermilion, passed away peacefully on Sunday, June 7, 2026, at Ames Family Hospice House following a lengthy illness.

Born on October 11, 1942, in Augusta, Kentucky, Carolyn was the daughter of the late Dexter and Evelyn Thornsbury. She later moved to Vermilion with her beloved husband, Paul D. Habermehl, where they built a life together and made their home for more than 63 years.

Carolyn devoted herself to raising her three children while pursuing her nursing education. After her children entered school, she began her career as a registered nurse at Mercy Hospital. Her dedication and leadership led her to serve as Director of Nursing at Mill Manor Nursing Home. She concluded her nursing career working alongside Dr. Chohan in Vermilion, where she continued caring for others with compassion and professionalism.

A faithful member of St. Mary Catholic Parish in Vermilion, Carolyn found great strength in her faith. Above all, she cherished her family. Her greatest joy came from spending time with her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. She especially loved attending her grandchildren’s sporting events and celebrating their accomplishments.

Carolyn is survived by her children, Chris (Jean) Habermehl, Cindy (Joe Rich), and Kurt (Cara) Habermehl; her grandchildren, Lauren (Kyle), Caleb, Heather, Sarah, Ethan (Taylor), Ryan, Sophie, Emily, Chad, Hillarie (Cody), Hallie, and Luke; and her great-grandchildren, Everest, Elias, Emmett, Thomas, Cecilia, and Teagan. She is also survived by her sister-in-law, Karen Thornsbury; her cousins, Paul Davis (Donna) and Steve Davis (Linda); and their families.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul D. Habermehl, in August 2025; her parents, Dexter and Evelyn Thornsbury; and her brothers, Ed Thornsbury and Terry Thornsbury.

Honoring Carolyn's wishes, no visitation will be held. A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Thursday, June 11, 2026, at 3:00 p.m. at St. Mary Parish, 731 Exchange Street, Vermilion, Ohio 44089.

The family suggests memorial contributions be made to Flags on Liberty, c/o Huntington Bank, 4530 Liberty Avenue, Vermilion, Ohio 44089.
