Carolyn Blake Reed

October 9, 1941 — December 10, 2024

Carolyn Blake Reed (née Carolyn Ann Blake), 83, of Lafayette, California, and Vermilion, Ohio, passed away peacefully at her home in Vermilion on Tuesday, Dec. 10, 2024 after a lengthy illness.

Born on October 9, 1941, in Ashland, Ohio, Carolyn split her time between Lafayette, CA, and Vermilion, OH, creating cherished memories in both communities.

Carolyn graduated from Westminster College and earned her Master's in English Literature from the University of Pittsburgh. She began her career as a teacher before dedicating herself to raising her family. She later returned to teaching English and other subjects at Contra Costa Christian High School for 15 years, retiring in 2006.

Faith was central to Carolyn’s life. She was a devoted member and leader of Linwood Christian Life in Vermilion, serving for many years on the Council of Christian Life. In California, she was an active member of Hillside Covenant Church in Walnut Creek, where she found fellowship and joy. Her faith communities played a focal role in her life and social activities.

Carolyn enjoyed walking, playing tennis, and cooking, but her greatest joy came from spending time with her beloved family.

She is survived by her husband of 57 years, Dr. Charles N. Reed, of Lafayette, CA; her children, Bob (Julie) Reed of Hilo, HI, Becky (Wayne) Phillips of Walnut Creek, CA, and Rachel (Wayne) McFarland of Tempe, AZ; grandchildren, Emma, John, Levi, Rebekah, Lola, Matthew, Clara, and Isaac; and her brother, Robert (Diana) Blake of CO.

Carolyn was preceded in death by her parents, Frederick and Florence (née Groth) Blake.

Carolyn has arrived in her true home with her Savior, where there are no more tears and no more pain. Memorial services will be held at later dates at Hillside Covenant Church in Walnut Creek, CA, and at the Tabernacle in Linwood Park, Vermilion, OH.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions to Linwood Christian Life.
