Charles James Hamman, 84, of Vermilion, died Saturday, February 9, 2008 at the Ohio Veterans Home in Sandusky. He was born October 3, 1923 in Lorain and was a life long resident of Vermilion. He was a veteran of the Army Air Corp serving in World War II. He received 7 bronze stars. He worked as a salesman and builder at Crow Lumber in Vermilion for 33 years. He was a member of AMVETS Post 22, Vermilion, was former president of the Kiwanis Club and was involved with Cub Scout Troop #409. He enjoyed reading, shooting pool, and crossword puzzles. Survivors include his wife of 61 years, June (nee Market); sons, James M. Hamman and David Lee Hamman; daughter, Joan King all of Vermilion; 7 grandchildren; 8 great grandchildren; sisters, Marilyn Farrell of Sandusky and Dorothy Walker of Vermilion; and a brother, Don Hamman of Fort Wayne, Indiana. Preceding him in death were his parents, Jesse Q. and Lola (nee Helfrich) Hamman, a daughter Cheryl A. Haines, 1986 and a brother, Jesse Hamman. Friends may call Monday, Feb. 11, 2008 from 5-8 p.m. at the Riddle Funeral Home, 5345 South Street, Vermilion, Ohio. Services will be held at the Riddle Funeral Home, Tuesday, Feb. 12, 2008 at 11 a.m. Interment will follow in Maple Grove Cemetery, Vermilion.
