Charles Gordon Stuart, 68, passed away unexpectedly on December 9, 2023, at University Hospitals of Cleveland. He was a five year cancer survivor and passed away cancer free, due to complications from an elective surgery.
He was born on September 1, 1955, in Clydebank, Scotland, and his family relocated to Vermilion on Christmas Eve in 1963.
Gordon was a proud graduate of Vermilion High School and held diverse roles at Clark Grave Vault, U.S. Steel, and as a Merchant Marine. His true joy, however, blossomed when he worked independently as a laborer and craftsman.
Known for his magnetic personality, Gordon was cherished by both family and friends. His wit and warmth endeared him to everyone he met. An enthusiast with a wide array of passions, he found immense happiness in the company of Cathy, exploring camping grounds, star gazing, combing the beaches, nurturing gardens, traveling, vending at flea markets, delving into history, studying Native American cultures, and collecting their artifacts and tools. A lover of music, he strummed melodies on his guitar and reveled in the beauty of nature, a true outdoorsman. His affinity for rocks led him on many adventures, and his artistic talent shone through his paintings and drawings. Gordon was an old soul that enriched the lives of those around him, leaving an indelible mark on the world.
He is survived by his sisters, Helen Villa and Anna (Markus) Ahonen; nephew, Jack Ahonen; nieces, Erin Villa Sigal and Eila (Neal Miller) Ahonen; great niece, Kaylen Sigal; and the love of his life, Cathy McCormick McClean.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Alfred and Roseanne Stuart, and his brother-in-law, George Villa.
A celebration of Gordon's life will be held at a later date.
